Los Vampiros

This just may be the strangest record cover I own. I'm not sure what the motivation was on picking this photo, or who this person is. Los Vampiros were a side project of Dag Nasty. From what I understand these guys only played one live show and released this hard to find recording. I got ordered this album from Selfless records out of a Maximum Rock and Roll many years back. I have always been a huge Dag Nasty fan even through all three singers. Peter Cortner sings on this album. He has always had some of the more strange and dark lyrics out of all Daghouse. His lyrics on this album rank among some of the more strange with song titles like "I Kill Dogs." Anyway hope this finds someone's fancy like it does mine.

Fugazi "Silvermachine" 2 x 7"

Have you ever worn out certain music that you love so much to the point where it just isn't the same as it used to be? Fugazi is one of those bands that I wish I knew the total number of hour minutes and days I have listened to them. Here is a 2 X 7" that I picked up sometime early 90's at a record store in Spokane called 4000 holes. Yes the owner is a huge Beatles fan. I have always been confused by the title of this 7 incher. The song titles that they give on the back don't really match up to what the songs really are. These recordings are old and these songs heard a million times. Next time you want to listen to the old Fugazi give this a whirl. Really cool version of the ever popular, never top 40 but should have been hit, "Waiting Room."

I think out of every live show that I have ever been to, The Fumes seemed to always play. I have no idea how many times I saw these guys. Out of all the times that I saw them I don't think that I was disappointed once. Always straight forward drunk punk at it best. Whether it was Peaceful Valley Community Center, the Pompeii or Airway Heights Grange the crowds were always the best. Great dancing done by audiences everywhere. This tape was acquired at a little record shop in Spokane many, many years ago on Garland Street. I can't quite remember the name of it but I think it was called Ago Today. Since it is quite rare being only 150 made, I thought posting these songs was appropriate. Especially after posting the Black Happy live show. Live music will never be the same for me as it was in the 90's. Enjoy.

I Don't Want to Rule the World

Alright! What to say about this here tape? This is sort of a homemade tape that was created when I was a sophomore in high school. Down the road from where I grew up was Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington. Like all colleges there was a common place called the HUB where students could congregate and flirt with one another between classes. The HUB held a kick ass radio station called KWRS as well as a stage where live shows could be seen. I would go down there just about every weekend to see local bands play and mosh around like people try and do these days (Its not the same). KWRS announced that they were going to air this Black Happy show. Luckily my cousin was staying at my house at the time and I had him record the show onto tape while I attended. Black Happy shows were amazing shows to go to. While all of the crazy grunge and Sub Pop music happening in Seattle, we had Black Happy. After many shows in small clubs and elsewheres, these guys created quite a following. By my senior year of high school all of the football players and jock heads started to go to the shows with fists and pent up anger. Maybe it was all of the burritos I threw at them during school lunch. Somehow the shows weren't as fun anymore. Eventually these guys broke up becoming Shoveljerk. I feel lucky to have captured this moment in Spokane's live music history. The show is available below. Just copy and paste it into your browser, download and enjoy. It is one large mp3 about 48 minutes long. At the end there is also the two songs off of Black Happy's "Go Off" 7" which was put out by my great friend Corey Menzer. Menzer if you have anything to add please comment below. Of course you have something to add! Cheers!
